Naga City – Alumni of Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation (MPCF) Camarines Sur - 2nd Engineer John Arnante and Maritime Chief Cook Allan Arnante shared their views and opinions to radio listeners on their success as seafarers in the October 25, 2014 presentation of the weekly radio show ‘Buhay Marinero’.

The two enthusiastically and frankly divulged the ups and downs they have passed through before they finally say they are happy with what they have reached in their profession. They now work as maritime officers in international shipping companies which enable them to enjoy modest compensation.

Engineer John talked about the self-discipline one has to observe starting from college days and up to the time one has embarked on a sea vessel as he takes-up the responsibilities of a seafarer.

“There is no substitute for hard work and having the right attitude towards work. It also pays to continue to know the latest trends in the maritime industry particularly in the specific field of one’s profession”, said 2nd Engineer John Arnante. Meanwhile Chief Cook Allan admitted that one has to love the job he has decided to embrace and look for opportunities for advancement.

“I started as an ordinary cook in a shipping company. There were chances which I availed of such as the opportunity to pursue my studies along culinary arts. These breaks have enhanced my qualification until such time the company noticed my potential”, declared Chief Cook Allan Arnante.

Aside from Engineer John and Maritime Chief Cook Allan, another seafarer-brother, 2nd Engineer Raymundo Arnante is also a graduate of MPCF Camarines Sur.

Being Marineros have become a tradition in the Arnante Family. Ms. Jo Arnante, the wife of Engr. Raymundo is also a Marinera, being a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration and now works as Alumni Coordinator of the school.

The Arnantes defy the school slogan ‘Sarong Marinero sa Kada Pamilyang Bicolano’ now with four members of the family having become Marineros.

The Mariners System’s weekly radio program ‘Buhay Marinero’ features success stories of graduates which serve as inspiration to struggling maritime cadets and to graduating high school students who wish to enroll at Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation and become seafarers too, someday.
