Graduating class of 2014 holds Parents’ Assembly
Canaman, Camarines Sur – The parents and the members of the graduating class of academic year 2013-2014 of Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation (MPCF) this province gathered for the Parents’ Assembly on February 22, 2014. The event was organized to prepare its members who have taken Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) and Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSME) courses for their Commencement Exercises. It was learned from Vice President for Academic Affairs Marian Lazaro that aside from the preparation for the graduation rites, the cadets should also get ready for their apprenticeship in domestic or foreign-going ships.
ELSEVIER Foundation and MPCF unveil billboard of Library for Safe Seafaring at Mariners’ Ruby Anniversary
Canaman, Camarines Sur – A soft launching of the project ‘Library for Safe Seafaring (L4SS) was made during the 40th Foundation Anniversary of the Mariners System on March 4, 2014 at the Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation (MPCF) campus, this province. It can be recalled that MPCF-Camarines Sur was awarded this grant by the Elsevier Foundation thru the linkages established by Board of Trustees Chairperson Evita L. Jimenez with the end-view of establishing a globally-linked modern library which will help enhance quality maritime education and training and more especially in the field of maritime safety.

Canaman, Camarines Sur – Students from Kwansei Gakuin University in Hyogo, Japan visited the campus of Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation (MPCF), this province on February 3, 2014.
They are here in the Philippines to teach Japanese culture in selected elementary public schools in the province of Camarines Sur but became curious upon learning that there is a maritime school in the vicinity whose graduates come to work in Japanese shipping firms.

$700,000 awarded to Innovative Libraries, New Scholars and Nurse Faculty Programs
Amsterdam, December 9, 2013
The Elsevier Foundation announced today the 2013 grant recipients for the Innovative Libraries in Developing Countries and New Scholars award programs. In total, $700,000 has been committed to ten institutions around the world in addition to five ongoing multiyear grants and the Nurse Faculty program. The Elsevier Foundation is funded by Elsevier, a global provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services.
“We are always on the lookout for game-changing projects that can serve as models with lasting impact on our health and science communities,” said David Ruth, Executive Director of the Elsevier Foundation and Senior Vice President Global Communications, Elsevier. “This year, we’ve identified some very compelling new opportunities to support big data, research capacity building, transparency and evidence-based medicine in the developing world. Our New Scholars grants focus on boosting team science diversity and innovation, targeting STEM inclusion in community colleges and a unique tropical health partnership between Portuguese speaking women scientists in Africa and their Portuguese counterparts. We are excited to able to add these excellent projects to the Foundation’s record of support for advancing science and health in new and innovative ways.”

Mark Angelo Brillo is one of the 2013 Ten Outstanding Maritime Students of the Philippines (TOMSP) awardees, a graduating (Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering) BSMARE cadet from Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation (MPCF) in Camarines Sur. As a promising maritime cadet, he is now known thru the achievements he has attained in his midshipman years.
