“Development of a Wastewater Filtration System Using Indigenous Materials”

A Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) funded project by MPCF Canaman is now on its 3rd quarter of implementation at barangays Sibobo, Calabanga and Dinaga, Naga City.

            The project is in the process of determining the level of awareness of the people in the sites on solid waste management, or RA 9003 as one of its objectives. After which, a seminar on this will be conducted, followed by a training on utilization of the collected solid waste.

The data gathering process was a collaborative effort of the MPCF CCS staff and members of the barangay council.The training on utilization of collected solid waste is tentatively scheduled third week of this month.

The following are the accomplished activities;

  • Collection of water samples for laboratory analysis in the experimental stage from both sites Brgy. Dinaga, Naga city and Sibobo, Calabanga, Camarines Sur was completed on Feb. 3, 2020.

Remarks: As of now we are waiting for the results of the lab. Analysis to identify the most significant combination of filter media that will be used for the piloting stage of the project.

  • Fabrication and installation of stainless filter plates was completed on Dec. 27, 2019.

Remarks: filter plates were fabricated that will serve as barrier for the filter media avoiding it to be carried by the flow of water.

  • Construction of a Filtration System Structure and plantbox in both sites Brgy. Dinaga and Sibobo were completed on Dec. 27, 2019.

Remarks: filtration system will undergo through piloting test by the 3rd quarter to validate the efficiency of the filtration system on-sites. Contributor: Vincent Salcedo Bulawan
