Crewing Company visits Mariners schools in Naga City and Camarines Sur

A representative of Senator Crewing (Manila) Inc., a German-based crewing firm providing seafarers to more than one-hundred ships plying the international route visited the campuses of Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation (MPCF) in Canaman, Camarines Sur and Mariners Polytechnic Colleges (MPC) in Naga City on August 23, 2023.

Capt. Gilbert G. Garcia, General Manager and Director of the company conducted a tour of the facilities of both schools. In the morning, he dropped-in at the five-storey Mariners Tourism and Hotel Institute (MTHI) of Mariners-Naga and took a look at the facilities used in the training of Tourism and Hospitality Management students.

At noontime, the guest joined the administration represented by Executive Vice President Gabriel L. Jimenez and the members of the Management Committee in a luncheon meeting at the Culinary Arts facility of MPCF in Canaman, Camarines Sur. He also made a tour of the school’s maritime laboratories and training.

In his visit, Capt. Garcia emphasized the need for students to be trained not only in the competency required of the job but also on the right attitude they must have in order to be hired and to succeed in their chosen profession.

He made mention of the increasing demand for qualified crew for Cruise Ships, Cargo Ships and Bulk Carriers. The necessity to adjust the training of would-be seafarers is desired so they can be matched with the high-paying jobs the ship company is looking for.

He assured the schools of the hundreds of vacancies that await the graduates who will qualify. With this, he forged a partnership with the Mariners schools so that a close coordination may be made on the kind of qualified personnel they are looking for and the ideal education and training the institutions are expected to give to the students.

Captain Garcia expressed optimism and appreciation on the quality education the Mariners schools give particularly those taking up the programs in Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) and Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) at MPC-Naga and the BS Marine Transportation, BS Marine Engineering and Cruise Ship Management Course in MPCF-Canaman, Camarines Sur.
