Mariners celebrates 50th Foundation Anniversary

The Mariners’ Polytechnic Colleges, Inc. (MPCI), the mother institution of Mariners’ Polytechnic Colleges Foundation (MPCF) of Canaman, Camarines Sur and Mariners’ Polytechnic Colleges (MPCF) of Legazpi City, Albay commemorated its 50th Foundation Anniversary on March 4, 2024.

Before MPCF-Camarines Sur and MPCF-Legazpi came into being, MPCFI-Naga pioneered them all, making the two new campuses to exist under the umbrella of the Mariners’ System.

Under the present set-up, MPCI-Naga is Mariners’ System’s Business School, MPCF-Camarines Sur is a Maritime School while MPCF-Legazpi is both a Maritime and Business School.

The Foundation Anniversary event carried the theme “MARINERS: 50 YEARS OF GOLDEN SERVICE! LOOKING BACK AND BEYOND! This is relevant as the institution started with just 32 students and now, the three campuses serve more than 9,000 students.

It can be recalled that Mariners used to rent buildings for its classrooms at the start of its operation and later, the makeshift edifices in its Canaman campus.  Now the schools are equipped with four-level concrete buildings with modern laboratories, including the multi-million Bridge Simulator of the two maritime campuses, as required by the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) for the use of the learners in their training.

Looking back, the institution has gone a long way since its inception in 1975. A glimpse beyond the 50 years of service the Institution has rendered, it aims to sustain the world-class standard of Maritime and Business education which the schools continue to offer to the Bicolano Youth.
